About SHAD
Our Mission Statement
SHAD has two missions:
- It seeks to offer people with disabilities the opportunity
to live independently in and outside their own homes
- It is dedicated to ensure that people with disabilities have
a choice of lifestyle like the able bodied
Our Vision
To be the best independent living service provider to people with
severe disabilities in the United Kingdom
Our Strategy
Through the following strategies, SHAD tries to achieve its
vision:
- The recruitment of volunteer personal (care) assistants to
facilitate its service users - this is SHAD's main strength
- Recruitment processes are enhanced by continuing development
of networks in both the United Kingdom and abroad
- The recruitment strength of SHAD is further enhanced by the
unique opportunities offered to volunteer personal (care)
assistants including - career prospects, insight into
the social
model of disability, subsistence allowances, free furnished
accommodation
- Continuous improvement in the quality of support provided
to service users
- Matching the needs of service users with suitable volunteers
Our Values
SHAD operates on a set of values and ethics which include:
- Choice - SHAD's service users are involved
in the recruitment, selection and management of their
volunteers. Service users choose whom they are facilitated by
together with where and how they are facilitated.
- User Led - SHAD is run by those who use it.
Service users represent a majority of the governing Management
Committee.
- Training - Volunteers are specifically
trained to meet the needs of service users. SHAD ensures
volunteers receive basic training (safe movement and back-care
advice) at the start of their placements and ongoing training
and refresher courses are provided if needed.
- High Performance and Reward - SHAD expects
high performance standards from its volunteers and employees. In
return SHAD recognises and rewards achievements.
