Volunteering

Volunteers are needed in London to act as personal assistants to help people with disabilities.

In return SHAD offers

• Free furnished accommodation

• Subsistence allowance (currently equivilent to £60 per week)

• 2-3 days off per week

• Social network in London

• Excellent work experience

• Advice on career prospects

• Insight into disability

"While volunteering for SHAD I learnt that having a disability doesn't mean that the person can't have a normal life and that, most of the time, it is the environment that stops people with disabilities doing some things - for example using the underground system.

It was great to be part of the 'independent living' experience and you really feel like you're achieving something by helping a person with disability.

Also, I have met a lot of different people and it has helped me to open my mind to new cultures. I have made great friendships and have had fun too. I would recommend volunteering with SHAD to everyone!"
