Further Important Additional Information for Overseas Applicants
SHAD welcomes and encourages applicants from overseas. To be
certain that a placement with SHAD is the right opportunity,
applicants should consider the following:
- Successful volunteers possess very high spoken English
language skills
- Every successful written application results in the offer of
an interview which may lead to a placement
- It is possible to arrange interviews by telephone. If
applicants are offered a telephone interview it must take place
between 10:00 and 15:00 (London time) Monday to Friday
- Placements are subject to satisfactory application,
interview, references and security requirements
- Successful applicants will be required to ensure they comply
with appropriate United Kingdom entry requirements (including
appropriate visas) and are responsible for their own travel
expenses and medical insurance. Further information may be
obtained from the Border and Immigration Agency
'Voluntary Workers' website
- Applicants should be aware London is an expensive city in
which to live. SHAD is able to provide an allowance to cover
only basic living expenses and consequently volunteers must
possess good budgeting skills
- In order to comply with the requirements of United Kingdom
regulatory bodies, when it is not feasible to obtain a Criminal
Record Bureau check at Enhanced Level, applicants from overseas
will be expected to provide a validated written report as to
their character from their local police department. Full information concerning this requirement may be obtained
by contacting the SHAD office. See our
Contacts page for details
Note on Language Proficiency
It is essential for the work
of SHAD that applicants have reasonable proficiency in spoken
English. If you are uncertain about your level of spoken English
please take lessons before you apply or you can take an IELTS test
(International English Language Testing System: www.ielts.org) and
work towards grade 6 or 7.
SHAD would very much like to hear from you if, after considering
the above information, you would like to apply for a placement.
