Further Important Additional Information for Overseas Applicants

SHAD welcomes and encourages applicants from overseas. To be certain that a placement with SHAD is the right opportunity, applicants should consider the following:

  • Successful volunteers possess very high spoken English language skills
  • Every successful written application results in the offer of an interview which may lead to a placement
  • It is possible to arrange interviews by telephone. If applicants are offered a telephone interview it must take place between 10:00 and 15:00 (London time) Monday to Friday
  • Placements are subject to satisfactory application, interview, references and security requirements
  • Successful applicants will be required to ensure they comply with appropriate United Kingdom entry requirements (including appropriate visas) and are responsible for their own travel expenses and medical insurance.   • Applicants should be aware London is an expensive city in which to live. SHAD is able to provide an allowance to cover only basic living expenses and consequently volunteers must possess good budgeting skills
  • In order to comply with the requirements of United Kingdom regulatory bodies, when it is not feasible to obtain a Criminal Record Bureau check at Enhanced Level, applicants from overseas will be expected to provide a validated written report as to their character from their local police department. Note on Language Proficiency

It is essential for the work of SHAD that applicants have reasonable proficiency in spoken English. If you are uncertain about your level of spoken English please take lessons before you apply or you can take an IELTS test (International English Language Testing System: www.ielts.org) and work towards grade 6 or 7.
